Welcome to our website

Our aims

Ashbourne Heritage Society aims to promote, research and publicise any aspect of the history and heritage of Ashbourne and the surrounding area.  We see heritage as a much wider subject than just local history.

How we do this

We offer an annual programme of heritage-related lectures.

We organise visits to historic buildings and sites of interest, both local and further afield. In the past these have included trips to Southwell Minster, Chartley Castle, Throwley Old Hall ruin with its mediaeval field system and the Denby Pottery Factory.

We participate in local exhibitions and events. This year we had a stand at the History Fair in Belper.

Lecture series

This year, due to a major refurbishment of the Elim Church, our meetings from October to December will be held at The Pavilion, Ashbourne Park, Cokayne Avenue, Ashbourne, DE6 1EJ.

These meetings generally take place on the fourth Friday of the month, while the December meeting this year will be on the 19th December. Meetings are between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. with the talks beginning at 1.30pm. Our June meeting includes the Annual General Meting and may be held at a different location, which will be announced in good time. The September meeting may be replaced by a visit.

We also organise occasional visits and walks during the year. Details will be posted here and on social media, and members will be notified by email.

Lectures are free for members and £5.00 (payable on the door) for non-members
